traditional roofs and insulation

i have a traditinal victorian additional to a peg tile building. the pegtile sections are all pitched cei9lings and re-furbished.

The victorian slate needs to be re-done but i want to insulate throughout . What benefits are there insulation wise as where i place the sandwich as it is know. My builder and local conservation officer do not seem to either understand or agree. They do not seem very convincing. What are your thoughts on the matter . dh

Re: traditional roofs and insulation

David, if i understand your query correctly; you wish to insulate / upgrade the vic addition.

either insul between rafters or top of rafter, then counter batten , batten and re-slate as normal

sandwich is the amount and makeup of differing layers of material between internal ceiling/wall and roof /wall covering finish.

ceiling plasterboards/vapour barrier membrane/insulation inc membrane/roofing felt/roof covering (tile slate stone lead etc)

ventilation is also key, whether a cold or warm roof, you will need to include venting at eaves/ridge/tileslate levels.

i understand your builder and l/a officer just cant agree who has to final say, give me a call maybe i could talk to them j.t.
